According to LSM.lv, on November 29 at 16:49 Fire and Rescue Service received a call on Sturmanu Street in Riga, where, according to preliminary information, a roof panel broke off and fell on the attic floor of a five-storey apartment building.

Firefighters evacuated the entire stairwell, evacuating several people. There were no casualties. After the Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the building, specialists from the Riga City Building Department inspected the building and forbade the residents to return to the building until an in-depth examination had been carried out. The scene was cordoned off and representatives of the State Police were on duty at the scene. At 20.08 FRS completed its work at the scene.
The Soviet building regulations set the age of these buildings at 50 years. 70% of Riga’s housing stock is precisely these buildings, popularly called «Khrushchevka» because they were built when Khrushchev ran the USSR in the 1960s, and almost all the buildings are in a similar condition.
