Approved potential location of ELWIND offshore wind farm in Latvia and Estonia

ESTONIA – LIAA

According to the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA), the Estonian government has confirmed the location of the ELWIND offshore wind power project on Estonian maritime territory. On the Estonian side, the wind plant is planned to be located on the coast of Saaremaa Island.

This means that Latvia may initiate an environmental impact assessment work in the coastal area of Kurzeme between Pavilost and Uzava, where a wind farm is planned about 15-20 km from the coastline into the sea.

The ELWIND project is implemented by the Ministry of Economy of the Latvian Republic, LIAA and the Latvian transmission system operator «Augstspriegumas tīkls», the Estonian Ministry of Economy and the Estonian Environmental Investment Centre.
