Armed paramedics?

LATVIA – Ambulance Service

Emergency Medical Services (lat. NMPD) has decided to arm itself.

The Service is currently developing a specific security programme to reduce the risk of violence and aggression against medical teams during calls and to protect the health and lives of medics and drivers.

To this end, NMPD is evaluating the introduction of a number of additional security measures – purchasing self-defence equipment, installing video cameras on the uniforms of the crews, organising self-defence training and drills, increasing the strength of existing uniforms in case of attacks, etc.
