The 18 Leopard 2 battle tanks pledged by Germany to support Ukraine in its war against Russia have arrived in Ukraine, the German Defence Ministry said on Monday. The decision to supply these tanks, considered to be among the best in the Western arsenal, was taken by Germany in January.
“I am confident that they will be able to make a decisive contribution at the front,” German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius tweeted.
It is also reported that in addition to tanks, 40 German Marder infantry fighting vehicles and two armoured recovery vehicles have been delivered to Ukraine.
For several weeks, Ukrainian tank crews as well as soldiers who will operate the Marder vehicles have been trained in Münster and Bergen in northern Germany.
