The Polish Border Guard said Poland would start building an electronic fence on its border with the Kaliningrad region in March. The contract with TELBUD, worth over EUR 79 million, was signed in December last year. The length of the fence to be built will be 199 kilometres.

The fence will be equipped with a system of sensors and CCTV cameras, which will make it possible to monitor the situation round the clock regardless of weather conditions and without having to be directly present at the border line. The algorithms of the security system will be set up in such a way as to record attempts to cross the border specifically by people and not react to animals.
This is one of the border guard systems. The border guards have been using it for years.
“So far, we have been using portable perimeter systems and they have worked perfectly well at all parts of the border. That is why we have been recommending for many years that this type of security be installed on those sections of the Polish border that are the external border of the European Union.” – said Border Guard spokeswoman Lieutenant Anna Michalska.
The current situation on the Polish-Russian border is assessed as stable. In 2022 there were 11 cases of illegal border crossing from the Kaliningrad region to Poland. Other cases concerned straying mushroom pickers and tourists who wanted to take a photo of themselves in front of border checkpoints.
