LATVIA – Ministry of Education and Science
Four state-owned capital companies were reorganised, resulting in the creation of a new SIA «Latvijas Nationalisānais sporta centrs».
On 27 September 2022, Lielupe Centre and Mežaparks Sports Centre Limited Liability Company was registered in the Register of Enterprises of the Republic of Latvia.

According to the «Ministry of Education and Science», The Latvian National Sports Centre will provide management of the national sports base, which will include: the Culture and Sports Centre «Daugavas Stadium», the sledging and bobsleigh track «Sigulda», the tennis centre «Lielupe» and the sports centre «Mežaparks».
The strategic goal of the new organisation is to create conditions for Latvian athletes to prepare for starts at international sports competitions, national and international level sports competitions and cultural events.
Until now, the for-profit organisations run by the Ministry of Education and Science have been autonomous, financially and administratively unrelated companies. These companies are co-financed from the state budget. They are allocated funds both for annual economic activity and infrastructure maintenance, as well as for the implementation of investment projects.
The establishment of the Latvian National Sports Centre will ensure the centralised development, operation and maintenance of national sports bases, centralising the management and administrative functions of strategic and operational management, financial management, project management, public relations, personnel management, legal support, procurement management, office management and IT support.
The creation of a single state commercial organisation requires a unified strategy for the development of national sports bases and control over its implementation, unified planning and organisation of infrastructure development and operation, and the possibility for the Ministry of Education and Science to target the capital of the commercial company and monitor the compliance of its activities with the objectives of sports policy.
