Russia has asked the UN Security Council to allow Roger Waters to speak at Wednesday’s meeting to discuss the situation in Ukraine. The co-founder of the British band Pink Floyd in a recent interview spoke positively about Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“We are asking British peace activist and famous rock musician Roger Waters to address the UN Security Council on the possibility of a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian crisis amid increasing supplies of Western arms to this country,” the TASS news agency quoted the Russian deputy permanent representative to the UN, Dmitriy Polyanskiy, as saying.
UN Security Council meeting starts at 16:00 GMT on Wednesday
Former Pink Floyd member Waters has long defended Russia’s position on Ukraine, as well as China’s position on Taiwan. In an interview with TASS last October, he accused the United States of provoking war in Ukraine. Then he said that the Americans wanted to rule the world and citizens of other countries had to suffer as a result.
Also a few days ago, in an interview with the Berliner Zeitung newspaper, Waters questioned whether Putin was a bigger gangster than US President Joe Biden and every other US leader since World War II. Head of the Kremlin Putin, he said, “governs carefully and makes decisions by consensus in the Russian government”.
Meanwhile, Waters, who is himself British, lives in the US and owns a house in Manhattan.
