LATVIA – EXHIBITIONS
Andrei Severetnikov (1962) is a painter and exhibits his photographic work for the first time.
Artist was born in 1962 in Riga. Graduated from the Painting Department of the Latvian Academy of Art in 1993. Worked in the USA for several months by invitation for the Bible in Oils Museum. His numerous exhibitions include appearances at the Central House of Artists in Moscow in 1993 and 1996. Two of his solo exhibitions have already taken place in 2005, at the Reytern House and the Chernogolov House. Severetnikov’s paintings are in museums and private collections in Latvia and abroad. Andrejs Severetnikov calls his work classical realism.

The Pro-Rector of the Latvian Academy of Art, Associate Professor Andrejs Teikmanis wrote about him:
«Andrejs Severetnikov is a realist of the postrealist era. Realism of the 21st century is not like its older brother of the 19th century. Throughout the 20th century, realism was either acknowledged or denied. Those who courageously fought for the reconstruction of tradition, no matter what the circumstances, suddenly noticed that reality has aspects of fantastic personal subjectivism inherent in it. Andrei Severetnikov’s work can be considered an illustration of the search for the mystery of reality.
His painting is an honest and courageous adherence to the traditions of realism. The artist donates all his time to perfecting the traditions of realism. Quiet landscapes, still lifes and portraits serve this purpose. Each day begins with revelations, adding to the already accumulated knowledge with new discoveries. Painting for the artist is not a means of survival, not a form of production, but the basis for a strategy to explore the world».
Exhibition open until 09/12/2022 at Stabu 44, Riga.
