LATVIA – Ministry of Welfare
Ministry of Welfare launches a large-scale cycle of social entrepreneurship events «Let’s develop social entrepreneurship together!» funded by the European Social Fund. Various activities planned to strengthen and develop Latvia’s social entrepreneurship ecosystem will last until November 2023. They will be implemented in cooperation with sector organisations – the Latvian Social Entrepreneurship Association, the associations New Door, Reach for Change Latvia and the social enterprise Visas Vähvaas.
The events are designed for a diverse target audience of current and future social entrepreneurs, industry representatives, local authorities, investors and policy makers, young people, members of business incubators and organisations with the capacity and resources to create a supportive social environment for entrepreneurship.
Existing social enterprises that want to increase their social impact and strengthen their business model will have the opportunity to take part in an eight-month social business incubation programme. Applications for it will begin as early as the first week of January. In addition to the incubation programme, social enterprises will have the opportunity to receive one-to-one support in measuring and managing social impact, and there will be networking events over the summer – gatherings to share experiences and information. Current and future social entrepreneurs will also be able to receive advisory support on attracting investment and various other topics, with a focus on capacity building in areas such as business model and business plan development, financial and social impact modelling and presentation skills.
The Social Entrepreneurship Acceleration Programme is open to individuals and companies who have an idea for social entrepreneurship, or who are currently running a social project and would like to turn it into a sustainable, profitable business. Its aim is to provide knowledge and individual expert support to budding social entrepreneurs on their journey from idea to sustainable business plan, contributing to participants’ personal growth and understanding of entrepreneurship. Applications for this programme will also begin in the first week of January 2023.
On the other hand, in autumn 2023 an intensive course of seminars for successful launching of social entrepreneurship «School of Social Entrepreneurship» will be offered. These classes are intended for those interested in social entrepreneurship, authors of ideas and beginners in social business from all over Latvia.
In the series of events «Let’s develop social entrepreneurship together!». Intensive and targeted work with municipalities will also be carried out – already at the end of 2022, information seminars for their employees on developing social entrepreneurship and involvement of social enterprises in municipal functions will be launched. Workshops will take place in all 43 municipalities.
In order to promote cooperation between social enterprises, different organisations, planning regions, state and municipal institutions, regional think tanks will be organised where stakeholders will develop action plans for the further development of the sector. On the other hand, organisations and various stakeholder groups that have the potential to develop as social enterprises will be invited to participate in practical workshops on social business modelling. There will also be large-scale informative workshops with social enterprise ambassadors and social entrepreneurs.
The series of events is also intended to provide proposals for the integration of social entrepreneurship and social economy aspects into planning documents and activities of other areas, as well as a survey of social enterprises in Latvia on the measurement of social impact.
More detailed information and applications for participation in all events of the series of events will be available on the website of the Ministry of Welfare: www.lm.gov.lv with the section «News» as well as on the Facebook account of the Latvian Social Entrepreneurs Association and on the website: www.sua.lv.
