The most popular searches for Latvians on Google in 2022

The most popular Google search query in Latvia this year was «Covid sertifikāts», according to the «Year in Search» survey published by Google, it summarises the most topical search queries.

On the other hand, the geopolitical situation has increased the interest of Latvians in Ukraine. The name of this country was ranked second among the most topical search queries, while «manavakcina» came in third.

The most popular searches for Latvians on Google in 2022

Google’s annual summary reflects topics and events that have caught the public’s attention and, for example, this year sports events such as the World Football Championship, the Ice Hockey Championship and the Olympic Games interested Latvians more than the Positivus Festival or the Saeima elections.

Foreign news sources CNN and BBC News, as well as retail chain Lidl, were among the brands that Google users in Latvia have searched more frequently this year. After anti-covids restrictions were lifted, cinemas returned in popularity.

In the top of the queries that start with the question word «how», the leading questions were how to apply for firewood allowance and heating allowance.
