Ukraine continues to suffer from corruption scandals

Video shows agents retrieving a large amount of banknotes from a stash inside a sofa in the home of a former official suspected of embezzlement.

The footage shows a pile of money lying on a mattress. According to the portal, more than 17 million hryvnyas, hundreds of thousands of dollars and euros in cash were found during the search. The video appeared in the media after a series of corruption scandals that have rocked the Ukrainian Defence Ministry in recent days.

Authorities have charged several high-ranking officials in the ministry and another deputy defence minister, Vyacheslav Shapovalov, also suspected of corruption, has resigned.
